Imagine learning an instrument without ever spending time with a musician. Or becoming a parent without ever holding a child. Or becoming a skilled carpenter without ever setting foot on a construction site. We instinctively know that some things can only be learned by sharing life with someone who is already living them. The same is true of following Jesus. Yet much of Western discipleship has quietly assumed a different sequence: Learn enough. Know enough. Believe enough. Then you’ll belong. Information first. Relationship later. Jesus often began in the opposite direction. He invited people into relationship before they understood nearly everything He wanted them to know. We’ve come to believe that this wasn’t merely Jesus’ teaching style. It was a window into the very heart of God. We noticed the same pattern. God welcomed people into His presence before He shaped their understanding. That pattern didn’t begin with the disciples. It runs quietly through the whole story of Scripture. Through Moses, He instructed families to talk about His Word while sitting at home, walking along the road, lying down, and getting up. His desire was never merely to give His people information. He desired to form them through a shared life centered on His presence. God gathered first. Then He formed.

Make room for someone who is still questioning, growing, or failing—just as Jesus kept walking with his disciples.
